It has just come to my attention that Scotland is on the verge of a peat shortage. One article i read (see below) estimates that peat reserves could be wiped out completely by 2021. This will certainly throw a wrench into Islay Scotch production. Peat grows everywhere so it's not like they cant import it from elsewhere. But the decayed vegetation within the peat is what gives it it's signature flavor/aroma. So peat from somewhere else may taste completely different. Not to mention the extra cost we'll be hit with for the shipping fees. Just think, one day a bottle of Islay Scotch made with REAL Scottish peat will be a serious collectible! Anyone else heard any updates on this situation?

Here is the original report from 2015. Be sure to read all the way through the article, to the very last line!

@kroman I *wish* this was an April Fool's Day joke!

I don't know what's making you so convinced that it isn't! the article you referenced literally came out a few months after the april fools post. there are no other articles, press releases, etc confirming a shortage of peat. I'm not saying that there couldn't be a shortage sometime in the future, but a three year-old article that borrowed from an April fools day article isn't convincing in the slightest..
@DramTasticVoyage
here is THE SAME topic brought up as ANOTHER april fools day joke, the very next year!!!

@kroman Dammit.... I've been had.
I'll leave this post up just so everyone can laugh at me. I'm going to go dig a hole and hide in it for awhile.
