Tasting Notes versus Comparisons

Being rather new to enjoying single malts and whiskey in general

I would be really interested in information of a more comparative nature.

For instance I have developed, early on, a fondness for Japanese

whiskeys  Hakushu and Yamazaki and some Nikka's for instance.

And while my focus with regard to Scotch has mainly been

with the Glenmorangie offerings, I am really interested,

since I have not tried a very wide range of whiskeys so far,

what experienced whiskey lovers here can advise on

Scotch whiskeys that might be similar to Japanese whiskeys.

In my novice experience so far, Japanese whiskeys still  seem to be in a

rather unique position in their flavor profile/characteristics.

The closest I have tasted in similarity to Yamazaki 12 for instance

might be the Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or

Also Yamaaziki 18 is way expensive and it would be nice to hear what comparative

Scotch might be out there to give me a similar sense of the unaffordable Yamazki 18.

Any thoughts from folks here would be appreciated.

    Thanks

@jmhbpc Our Whisky Database (link) shows tasting profiles extracted from dozens to hundreds of individual tasting notes from users.

Looking up the Yamazaki 18yrs (link) you see, that it has a strong fruity nose and taste as well as an oaky taste an finish. The Sherry aroma is as well present in the taste. Here is the taste profile:

If you now start a 'Flavour Search' for this characteristic, you will get some suggestions from the system. Please do not look too much in the Finish. Here the differences are quite big. Here is the link with the data what I gave in.

The output is the Aberfeldy 18yrs and the Aberlour 16yrs. Please do not expect to find exact bottles. They are all far too different to find really similar ones. Especially with the Yamazaki 18yrs.

Try not to key in too many characteristics. The system will then not find a single bottle. Start with the two highest scored aromas and tastes and move then forward by limiting the results.
