recently picked up this bottle from Singapore Changi Airport duty free. It's distilled in 1988 in first-filled ex-bourbon, bottled in 2017. That makes it 28/29 years in first-fill casks, does it not end up only about the wood and wiping out all distillery character?
I paid EUR380/GBP336 for it.
@hwchoy
The smoke ins such a long stored whisky would be very complex. But I never have the chance to try such whiskies but I assume the longer you store a whisky the more cask influence you have and less distillery character.
@bedlamborn that's what I thought. Looking around for something to buy at duty free and it's apparently very limited, plus the price seem very reasonable for such an aged and vintage bowmore.
@hwchoy
I assume that @horst_s can give you a good answer with his better experience.
@bedlamborn
even better if @horst_s can do a review!
@hwchoy
He must find a leaking bottle first
@bedlamborn lol
This is a very untypical bottle for Bowmore. There character of the Sherry casks will be missing in full. So this is a really special one. Remebers me of the Bowmore Tempest.
@horst_s @horst_s
yes that's what I thought so grabbed a bottle even though it's quite pricey. and Bowmores are quite collectible so I think my investment will be more than protected
@hwchoy So I assume you wont be tasting this soon then? Haha Im curious to know what its like!
@Chawit_Ongcharit
haha maybe I'll try to get another bottle on my next trip. but still, it is quite expensive although I think is reasonable price for a 29 yo.
