So the whisky exchange declared Kilchoman's Machir Bay as the 2017 whisky of the year (https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/feature/whiskyoftheyear). Although I was personally surprised by how much I liked it, I don't know if it would be my whisky of the year.
I was wondering: what was the most memorable single malt of 2016 for you? For me, it was an Arran Sauturnes Cask Finish. With a splash of water, this was an AMAZING dessert scotch. At 50% abv, it had plenty of kick too! Although it isn't my favorite, it was the one whisky that truly made me appreciate all the different kinds of flavors a well-made scotch can impart.

My most memorable single malt of 2016 came from Ireland-Bushmills 16 Year Old. A port pipe-finished 50/50 mix of whiskeys matured in bourbon and sherry casks, this decadent malt is one of the best I've had.
It seems to me that Bushmills are one of the few relative bargains left in single malts. The 16 year old goes for about $75 in my area (Tennessee, U.S.), and I can get the 21 year old for $100.
@kroman
For me the most memorable moment of the year was when I opened up a Talisker 10yo and realized how good Talisker is.
At the higher end of the scale definitely the Glengoyne 25.
Otherwise I'd say the Glendronach 18.
I'd pick Yamazaki's 12-year-old expression. It was the best entry-level malt I have tasted thus far and I was amazed how complex it is at this young age.
2nd place would probably go to Benromach 10yr, 3rd to Ledaig 10yr.

I still have to take my year end video in which I will also nominate my best whisky from 2016.
@horst_s
is this the My Bar 2016?

@horst_s I look forward to the video, but the most memorable single malt and the best are not the same. For example, back in September I was able to go to a collector and hold a bottle of his Black Bowmore! I remember being so nervous that I would drop and break it. Even though I didn't taste it, simple holding the bottle made it one of the most memorable whiskies of 2016 for me.
Have to agree that the Glengoyne 25 was a highlight, but so was the Laddie 27YO and Octomore 10YO sampled on the Warehouse Tour at Bruchladdich... Lower end, the Glendronach 15 or Benriach 15 Port Cask... very yummy!!
