Japanese make some amazing spirits, I have no problem saying it is on par with fine single malts, I have only tried nikka 10, an entry level malt and id probably give it an 87-89, only issue is, unless you go to a specialist, which is a five hour drive for me, you can't buy a bottle. Keep up the good work, i look forward to seeing additional reviews. Shame this guy was closed.

Oh that sounds nice. I also think Japanese whisky is underrated/not sold often enough. I would love to go to Japan one day.

There are some very good Japanese whiskys and some are outright amazing!
Even though they come somewhat more expensive than the "regular" Scotch whiskys most I tried gave good value for the money.
My personal favourites (and also recommnedations for "1st tries&quot:wink: are Hakushu 12 and the Hibiki blends - together with the more expensive Taketsuru 21 yrs and most Hanyu and Karuizawa bottlings (even though I haven't managed to try a lot of these :cry:smile:.
Quite easy to get and also very good is Nikka From the Barrel - a mainstay in my bar.

And malt does more than Milton can To justify God's ways to man. (A. E. Housman)

I'm sure I would adore Karus, but at those price points I will most likely never own a bottle. Bottlesplits are also rather scarce, price and availability is a certainly an issue here. Then again, its a highly sought after commodity from a silent distillery.

However, it's always ironic that stuff, which does not exist anymore (PE, Brora, Karuizawa) is rated so highly. I know that sometimes the circumstances are complex and not directly related to the quality of the product, yet the simple question arrises how a producer could sink with merchandise like this. I'm partly torn between passive aggressive negligence and admiration/curiosity. :banghead:

    One day I will try a 1984 Karu (my vintage 8) )
