I absolutely love the big in your face flavors of the island malts; Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Talisker, Lagavulin, etc. Are there any single malts from the Highlands, Lowlands or Speyside that can keep pace with the islanders? Trying to stay under $80
Try the Ballechin 10 y o (Edradour distillery) or a peated BenRiach.
Thanks for the recommendations. The only peated BenRiach I can get in Michigan is the 10 YO Curiositas, and I don't think I can get Ballechin either. Im going to get the BenRiach tomorrow, not sure when I will crack it open though.
There are a few more in the Highlands. For example the Old Ballantruan from the Tomintoul Distillery. Or the Ardmore Traditional Cask, the Cu Bocan and so on.You can search our Whisky-Database accordingly. Thank you Horst! I will keep my eye out for those in the future.
i had a wee look on the whisky store usa, and the only speyside peated one i could see for sale was http://www.whiskyshopusa.com/tomintoul-peaty-tang/
Longrow is heavy peated.
If you're ok venturing away from peat try Craigellachie 13, packs a yummy punch, not shy in the least.
