I am new to the whisky world. I have only tried around 10 different whisky in my life (please check my collection). As of today, the best whisky I have ever tried is not a single malt whisky but is a blended whisky...

You might wanna be careful with the wording here. This type of whisky is called a 'blended malt whisky' (at least following Scottish regulations) since it contains malt whisky from different distilleries. If it was a 'blended whisky' it would also contain grain whisky. However, since it's called "Pure Malt" it is made from malt whisky alone (which, from the point of view of a single malt snob, is still better than real 'blend' containing grain whisky.:wink:smile:

Yes... it is a blended whisky. If I have to stick to the trend section of best Scottish Single malt whisky, I would have given it to Lagavulin 16 because I love smoky whisky.

Erm... I just went to great lengths to explain that it is NOT a 'blended whisky'. :wink:8)

The Ardbeg Supernova. For me this is the best combination of smokiness and sweetness. Unfortunately you don't get any standard bottling that is alike to this one. If you have the Lagavulin DE you don't have enough smoke and if you have the Octomore you don't have enough sweetness.
I'm confident that someday some distillery will put out a super sweet and super smoky standard bottle.

Sounds very tasty. I wish I could try it out one day. Hopefully one of the local whisky bar might have a bottle keeping my fingers crossed...

I have talked to some people of LVMH (the guys who owne Ardbeg) and they said there is a Supernova 2014. I have never seen it though.

    Not that easy...
After consulting my list the top three would be:

    - Glen Grant 1972/2012 Angel's Choice Sherry Hogshead MoS #12006 or Glen Grant 1972/2011 The Perfect Dram "Spirits in the Sky" Ex-Sherry Wood

    - Glenglassaugh 1983/2011 or 1972/2012 for Andrea Caminneci

    - shared 3rd Place:
    - Longmorn 1972/2010 The Perfect Dram 4 Refill Sherry Wood
    - Talisker 35 J. 1977/2012 Limited Edition
    - Tomatin 1976/2011 Grotesque Crocs Refill Sherry Butt
    - Karuizawa 1971/2008 Vintage Single Cask Sherry Butt #6878

Guess that's more than three, but then they_re all great!

I know its not a real spectacular Whisky, but for me its the Lagavulin 16. Its the only Whisky that surprises me every time again. Everytime i can find new notes, they always differ a bit, sometimes some notes melt together and give me some new things, other times i can only find a few..

But however, everything i find is outstanding and completely what i like. The Lagavulin 16 is a chameleon - always with the same (20) colors - but in a different order every time. No other Whisky can give me that. Imagine your wife... Oh, i better stop here..:wink:

On the one hand i (sometimes) would like to have 46% or 48%abv in it, but on the other hand i dont know if these additional % would destroy what i like so much about this Whisky.

regards.. ..and sorry for bad english
