My general novice understanding is that most independent bottlings can not be compared to distiller's bottlings, as they aren't so much concerned with keeping the characteristics that make a particular malt, special.
Can anyone here comment on the Laphroaig Independent Bottlings? There are a few and Laphroaig is the favorite in our house (my wife and I enjoy 2 whiskeys each night, one before and one after dinner) and I'd like to expand our collection. We're new to Scotch, just got into it last year, but like everything else we do, we went in the deep end (52 bottles in our collection right now, and it grows every week). We have the 10, 18 and 25 (on the way), the Triple Wood, QC, Cadeiras as well. Any of the Indys we should grab? |

I've only tasted a few independent bottlers so I can't comment on them all. The main concern I have with them is that every bottling is different, that's what they sell them on. I've found one or two that I really like but again some I really don't like all from the same bottler.
If you want a consistent flavour always go for distillery bottlings but buy the independents when you can taste them first for something quite different. |
