Default Single Malt or Blend?

Hi everyone!

I would like to know what do you thing about it. what do you prefer, single malt or blend? why? I've always have think that to appreciate a blend, I must know single malts. I think also that a blend can be much more complex than a single malt, am I right?

Thank you all members of whisky.com to make me learn something new every day. As you must guess, I'm a newbie, and I have a lot to learn.

While I enjoy Johnnie Walker Green (vatted malt), Gold (blend) and Blue (blend), I spend my money on single malts.

Why? What does make you prefer single malts?

Blends usually don't have the richness of older single malts. Compass Box has some interesting blends out there, but there are usually single malts out there that can offer more than a blend.

True blends mean the whisky is a blend of malt whisky and grain alcohol. Young grain alcohol tastes bad. I would rather not drink poor tasting young grain alcohol.

It depends very much on the individual bottle for me and while I have a few blends I like, the majority of my favorites are single malts.

Some blends I like are Crown Royal Reserve & XR, Taketsuru 17, Hibiki 12 & 17,

Never be afraid to like what tastes good to you and be willing to at least try what's out there.
