Stuck in a peat bog: a quandary
Hey! Long time, no post. I'm looking to treat myself for the New Year, and would love some advice or comments regarding my proposed purchases.
Specifically, I'm thinking of picking up maybe 3 or so bottles that I would not normally be able to get my hands on--via the Internet (Rakuten in Japan). I've come to thinking of picking up a peaty/smoky trio and sticking with what I know and love. My idea, at present, is Peat Monster, Big Peat, and Bruichladdich Peat (sense a theme here?). Interestingly, all are 46% abv, non-chill filtered, and no-caramel, making for an intriguing comparison chance. Some potential backups include Finlaggan and Caol Ila Natural Cask Strength, plus a few more that are lower on my list for reasons of either personal taste or finance (uigeadail or similar is great, but I would buy two bottles of Laphroaig quarter cask for the same price and more bang for the buck, for example).
Any thoughts on these choices? Other suggestions? As for Finlaggan, I'm thinking maybe Old Reserve Cask Strength: is cask strength a better choice? Is Old Reserve a step up from Original Peaty (the price difference is negligible, nearly non-existent)? All this and more I'd love feedback/input on. Many thanks for your time and thoughts!
