Default 28 year old open whisky - can it go bad?

I recently acquired a bottle of whisky from 1984. It had been opened but most of it is still there. My question is, can whisky go bad? (I don't mean will it taste slightly off, but rather, will it make you ill?) Thanks for speedy responses, I can't wait to start drinking it!
