Default Kummel

I think "Kummel" is the spelling of a whiskey that my grandfather kept the whole and drank the whole time i was growing up, I am 37 now and he passed away in 95 and a few years before that he stopped drinking it because he couldn't find it.
I was wondering if it still can be purchased in the US, Texas specifically? I also wandered what type of whiskey this was, i have seen it on line over seas but didn't know if that was the same if so why can't i find it around here???

thanks
