Default Wildcatter bourbon whiskey

My Grandfather has an unopened bottle of Wildcatter Kentucky bourbon whiskey from the 60's. I was wondering if it had any value or should we just open it and drink. Thanks

A Bourbon forum I belong to offers the following information:

"...[Wildcatter] may have been a specialty item for limited
distribution..."

Bottled by Wildcatter Distilling Co., Bardstown, Kentucky
Aged 8 years, label says, "Old Style Sour Mash", "Kentucky
Straight Bourbon Whiskey", "86 Proof"

Duke archive lists a 1968 billboard - "Discover True Kentucky
Bourbon" (no image)

Wildcatter get a brief mention in the short video on this page.

Google news ad for Wildcatter.

Bio of Glenn Herbert McCarthy who "...was a notorious
drinker who introduced his own label, "Wildcatter" bourbon."
so it probably was a "specialty label" and wasn't distributed
widely. An ebay check shows a number of orange/tan
Wildcatter decanters have gone unsold. Empty ones have
limited collector value. Full ones are a crap shoot as to how
the contents might taste.

If you have a glass bottle, it may have some value to a Bourbon
enthusiast but note that it is illegal to sell alcohol without a license
(despite the "collectible container".) If you are a Bourbon drinker
(or know one) opening it and sharing might be your best bet.

Hope this helps.
