Hello,
Just received a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label as a gift and was curious as what the age might be. Here are some pictures of the fron and back of the bottle. Also on the bottom it reads "SC813" "Liqour Bottle Scotland" "08 U8" if that helps any? https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P...s887/photo.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-p...oto%281%29.JPG |

If you're looking for the age of the whisky it's a standard blend which means that it's all over 3 years old. Normally JW Red age runs form around 3.5 to 4 years for the grain and 4 to 7 or 8 for the malts.
If it's the pack itself then it looks to be not that old and not really worth any money. Drink and enjoy Slainthe |

I guess I was more curious to the age of the bottle. Seems like a older bottle maybe 70s or 80s.

The fact it says imported and the alcohol content is in proof suggests this is an American market bottling. The US added ABV (alcohol by volume) to labels in 1990 so chances are it is a little older than that at least. The size is in metric so its not incredibly old, event though the metric system was legalised pre-prohibition I have come across may pre mid century bottles that are all labeled in pints/quarts. What is a nice point to note is the direction of the striding man logo... On this bottle he walk to the left, in 1999 the logo was changed so he walked right (a natural direction... this is the way we read...) to signify the whisky is moving forward.
For a collector of liquid history this is a nice piece. If you're not a collector but love a good drop I would highly suggest tasting this on par with a current bottling and see if you can pick up on how the blend will have subtly changed over the years, not through any process other than simply the whiskies used to make it will be different today as to they were 10, 20, 30 years ago... Enjoy, Russ beerandascotch.com |
