Teachers Highland Cream Vs Teachers 50

Hi, can anyone give me a clear comparison between Teachers Highland Cream & Teachers 50,I mean how the tastes differ and any other differences in smoothness & aftertaste?? Thanks

This should help you - info directly from Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. The main difference is that Teacher's 50 is 12 years old whereas Teacher's Highland Cream is a standard blended whisky – no age declared on the label.

Teacher's 50 was developed for the 50th anniversary of India’s independence. It was initially proposed that the blend be made up from a 50:50 mix of malt and grain and that it has at least 50 different single malts would have been bottled at 50%alc. The 50% was not allowed by the Indian government so the company just used the 50% malt and 50 different malts.

The current blend is still 12 yr and has 50% malt, but I think that the number of single malts has had to come down due to lack of stock.
As far as the taste profile is concerned, because Teache's 50 is a 12yr, it is much smoother and softer and because of the 50% malt - much fuller and mouth filling in flavour than Teacher's Highland Cream.

Teacher's highland cream is a bit harsh on the nose as younger whiskies are involved but still its better than all the other whiskies available in the indian market in that price range. Still you will get that malty aroma with the citrus, coffee, chocolate, oranges and vanilla. Tastes a bit stronger when compared to the 50 however the complexity is still therewhich reveals itself one layer after another.
Teacher's 50 is better as it is older than the highland cream which results in more pleasent nose no harshness of the immediate evaporation of the alcohol. The first thing on the nose you will notice is vanilla then wood, bourbon casks have been used I believe. With the hints of coffee, chocolate, citrus reveal them on taste. Sweet on arival with that zip that makes you love it more once you have tasted it. The initial sweetness is followed bu the complexity. Full bodied and a dry peaty finish.

The last time I was in India I discovered that Teachers 50 was originally intended for sale only in 1997 for the 50th anniversary if independance but was so well liked it replaced Teachers Royal which was a 12 year old as well. It appears to be blended from 50 different malts and has 50% malt in the blend according to the label whereas Teachers Highland Cream has aroubd 30 malts and has 45% malt in the blend.
