Default Noob Question

I have inherited a couple of unopened bottle from my wife's grandfather.
One is a 12 year old Dimple Pinch (tax lable says 1989)

The second is a bottle of crown Royal canadian whisky (tax lable 1981).

Is it best to leave these unopened and never drink from them or is it ok to open one and have a drink in his memory. I am new to scotch and whiskey in general.

Thanks for your input.

Default Dimples and Crown.

Hello! Well both are from the 80's and are blended and will not age in the bottle so here's the thing. I've been seeing some Dimple up at auction from the end of proabition 12 and 16 yr old from 40.00-50.00 dollars / bottle. Now thats the same or pretty close to current new bottles. This also goes for the Crown Royal. The bottle for the Dimple w/Box in years to come would be worth more but if you're not a die hard collector I believe you should pop open the bottle and toast away!!!! Enjoy the whisky's because they are blended and will not age in the bottle; the bottle you have should taste the same as the one you buy today.

Cheers, Eric

Any whisky blended or not will not age in the bottle , the aging process only takes place in the cask before bottling . Wine will age some in the bottle .

Default Noob question

I found ~50 bottles of Dimple 12-Year-Old that have gone up for auction since 2008 ranging in price from 12 Euro ( $15.12 ) to 72 Euro ( $90.72 ); not auction breaking records. Blends tend to sell cheaply. The 72 Euro bottle was a presentation produced for Mexico and at that, $90.00 is not very much after you ship it to the auction house ( $30.00 ) and they take their 30% cut, provided you have this particular one. There is only one auction house in the USA; that being Christies and Christies wants RARE bottlings ( usually single malts ). Otherwise, you will have to ship the bottle to Europe. I could not find anything for Crown Royal. I would just crack the bottles and enjoy. I think you will be chasing a dream if you keep these bottles in hopes they will increase in value.

Thanks for the help. I was not concerned about the bottles being worth any cash. I was just worried that it may not be good to drink now. If it had gone bad then I would just leave the bottles sealed. But since it is ok to drink, Ill crack one open and have a toast.
