Default The Scottish Mother of Japanese whisky

Greetings from Japan,

I thought you might enjoy this recent newspaper article on Rita Taketsuru - the Glasgow-born woman who helped to bring the water of life the land of the rising sun.

It's from The Japan Times: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-b...0101128x1.html

A very interesting article, thanks for posting the link.

I recently spent some time in Japan and visited the Hakushu, Yoichi and Yamazaki distilleries. They each had information about the history of the distilleries; and at the time I found the story of Rita and her husband to be particularly interesting.

Incidentally, the whisky was also phenomenal!

What a fantastic story - I was really touched by this article and truly enjoyed reading it. I spent a couple of years teaching English to kids in Japan back in the early 90s, but unfortunately I didn't know a thing about whisky at the time. I should dig out those old kimono pix and toast to Rita!

The Taketsuru Fan Club has another new member - no doubt

Moving story and more informative than I'd expected. Now when I go to Yoichi I'll have one more thing to do...
