Default Collecting

I have the amazingly bad luck of living in a Control State in the US.
This means I am limited to about 50 Scotchs on a retail level.

Whenever I travel, I try anything I have never seen, heard or can't pronounce.

I am now starting down the path of collecting.

Now, as with any consumable product... I plan to drink them. I do not want to collect as an investment.

My everyday is Cragganmore.

I ramble....
Back to the point....

Where would you go to buy?
Who is reputable?

Where do you live? Are you looking for a local retail store or online?

I live in North Carolina, so local store is out. I know what I can get on the local level and it is limited to what the state is carrying. All state run.

I can go into South Carolina and buy, but can't legally transport it back into North Carolina.

Though most would say ignore this rule, I for one can predict the calibur of the collection I will have and do not need to be breaking laws or becoming a target.

For me... I think ideally, I am looking for an online retailer who is willing to work with me to find the off beat. What I am looking for is not a stock item.

I do not care if they are US based or other, and fully understand the shipping cost from overseas.

I maintain a cigar humidor in London that I have never seen which gives me access to products not available in the US. (and I am not implying illegal Cubans)

Parkers sell worldwide : http://www.parkerswhisky.co.uk/

The Diageo Claive Vidiz Collection in Edinburgh started off with Claive Vidiz being given a couple of bottles as a gift. It is an impressive collection and worth seeing. Diageo know that one day this record will be beaten. Could you be the one with a bigger collection one day??

Certified as the world’s largest by the Guinness book of Records, the record breaking Diageo Claive Vidiz Collection of Scotch Whiskies was unveiled as part of a £3m new tour at the Scotch Whisky Experience earlier this year. Becoming a must-see in the city, the new ‘Collection Tour’ will be dedicated to providing an exclusive glimpse into the life and history of almost 3,500 bottles, amassed over 35 years by the collection’s original owner in Brazil. Expert guides will recount tales of the most interesting and unusual bottles while visitors savour a specially selected mature dram and enjoy a rare chance to peruse rows and rows of diverse and treasured whiskies at their own pace.
