Please Help Me Enjoy My Glenlivet XXV W/ Suggestions

I just picked up a bottle of XXV Gonna crack it tonite.

Should I simply drink it neat, splash of H2O or maybe a rock or two?

Brush my teeth first?

Any particular food to enhance the experience?

Any other suggestions are welcome and appreciated?

Lucky you - your Glenlivet XXV sounds wonderful. Try it neat - just a little bit - then experiment by adding just a drop of spring or filtered water (please do not use tap!). I love scotch with dark chocolate, beef, any food that is rich.

Just to be clear, no ice! It will dull the flavor.
Sometimes I'll use a little splash of cold water though.
Ultimately, enjoy it any way you want, even if that means with ice and sour mix. (though I wouldn't recommend that for a quality single malt!) I saw a video review for JW Blue where the guy pours in some ginger ale and ice cubes and takes a drink. He was joking, but I was laughing out loud at the thought of 1) making a video tasting note on scotch and ginger ale and 2) using JW Blue as a mixer blend.
Do you have a Glencairn scotch glass, or equivalent? If not, they're worth the investment. I used to use a heavy base lead crystal old fashioned glass, the nosing really is better with a fluted specialty glass.

Well - it really is fantastic stuff - I only had a regular tumbler glass - but no matter. I stuck my nose in the glass and really enjoyed the aroma. It has a nice viscous quality ("legs" as you experts say) and the color is beautiful.

I kept in my mouth for 25 seconds and it really explodes with great flavor. I'm too much of a novice to talk about "vanilla, oak, creme brulee, etc. - I have no f'in idea how people identify all that stuff. But I do know that I like it- ALOT! It made the 21 year old Fiddich I sampled with it seem unrefined and lacking - and I love the 15, 18 and 21 y/o Glenfiddich's.

Now, in about a "double", I dropped a capful of good water - this smoothed it out and actually helped the flavors come out. By diminishing the "bite", I could better appreciate the great flavors. I sipped long and slow, admiring the bottle, the ash box, and the brouchure that comes with it.

The Good - this is damn good Scotch and I love it.

The Bad - I'm spoiled now and no longer interested in anything only 12 years old
