Here you go - our contact at Douglas Laing & Co. Ltd had this to say...
The King of Scots Rare Extra Old was initially a Duty Free exclusive for the Pacific rim countries, specially Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, down through Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Guam and Honolulu with occasional sales being made into San Francisco and Anchorage (largely with the DFS Group). It was designed to compete against Chivas Regal and Johnny Walker Black 12 year old blends, although we did not actually put an age statement onto the decanter. We are still of the opinion we can put together a good blend based on selection of Malts and a higher percentages than normal of them – rather than fully going down the age route. It sold through the late 70s into the mid 90s, normally priced at retail point US $25 up to $30. We are pleased to say we produced many thousands of this top quality blend in this Rare Extra Old pack. All were actually designed for consumption rather than for collecting and if there is an auction value we are unaware of it but would anticipate something around US $50 (as it is now discounted as we currently concentrate our stocks onto sales of Malts). Our recommendation, of course, is to drink it as it is a fine dram.

Hallo - just to say that for many years I have wondered and done nothing about a whisky I came across in a bar in what was a small Spanish fishing village in the sixties. It was called King of the Scots AND, had a sloping neck at about 10 - 15 degree angle - which is one of the reasons I recall it. I looked at your photos but its nothing like the bottle I saw. Are there different versions of KotS, would you know?
My dad is a Chivas drinker, he's 91 and I would dearly love to see if I can trace this whisky. Help appreciated Linda |

King of Scots (KoS) which is owned by Douglas Laing and Co. is not far from getting their first bottling prepared for their new RSA importer. Anyone looking for King of Scots for purchase locally in South Africa...it should soon be available in early 2012.
