I've a bottle of Dallas Dhu which I bought in the mid 1990s. It's a Gordon & MacPhail bottling of a 1971 distillation and bottled in 1995. Is this worth keeping for longer, or should I use it to wet the baby's head when the 3rd grand-child is born near Christmas? From memory it cost about £42 when I bought it in Tobermory.

Hi, I am not an appraiser of whisky but I do look for past auction prices and current retail values of older bottlings and vintages in shops worldwide to stay abreast of prices to give myself a benchmark in the event I find a bottle that interests me. For your bottling I have found only one bottling of the exact vintage distillation and bottling date. It was an auctioned bottle that sold for GBP 103.00 in 2007. I assume your bottle has the CREAM COLORED MAP LABEL. The G & M DARK BROWN and CREAM COLORED BANNER LABEL bottlings with CONNOISSEURS CHOICE printed on the banner usually command a higher price as this packaging label is rarer than others in the Connoisseurs Choice range. Hi Keith, Thanks for your reply - my boxed bottle ticks all the boxes that you mentioned. Seems like it's a bottle well worth hanging on to for a few years longer. :-) Slainte, Tony |
