Default Whisky Value: US vs UK Releases

Is there any difference in value between US and UK official releases? Is the only difference the volume (750/700ml), or are there more differences in the whisky itself that may affect value?

I'm purchasing a few PE 9th releases (among others) for future investment that are US releases. How will they stand up to the same UK release regarding value?

This is a good question. I wonder if Joanne has a contact that would answer it.

There is one other difference and that's the strength, UK's 40% whereas US is normally 43%. Normally all malt companies pride themselves in releasing the same quality and flavour no matter where its sold.
If it's cask strength then there's no difference

Hi!
I'm a private whisky collector from UK.

Try some of those links...

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/ (best choice)
http://www.whisky-online.com/
http://www.masterofmalt.com/
http://www.parkerswhisky.co.uk/ (usually bit overpriced)

It's really well respected sellers in UK.

Good Luck

Thanks for the info Gandolfini,

I live in Canada and unfortunately none of the UK sellers will ship here.

I do have sellers in the US who do, but most of the time they only have access to the 'US' versions of the releases. I mostly collect cask strength expressions, so the only difference is the volume of the bottles.

I guess it's hard to predict what factors will affect value in the future, but if there's any precedent on this, I'd appreciate the insight.

Hi Daauger, The whisky supplied to export markets is generally the same. The differences are as mentioned, the bottles are 75cl and the ABV starts at 43%. One thing that may make a difference to the collector is the avaialbility. A distillery may produce a lot less bottles for certain markets, which would help resale value.

Default us vs. uk

Thanks Derek!

Does anyone know generally what the split is for the US market? I would imagine that it would be fairly large, but for instance, the PE 9th release was almost 6000 bottles; how many of those would be destined for the US?

I know that the emerging markets in Asia, etc. have created higher demands in other parts of the world which has led to availability issues and higher prices, but is this trend likely to continue, or will the distilleries ramp up production to meet the new demand? I would think not, as it is their best interests to keep prices high. Any thoughts?
