Default Glenfiddich 21

I'm looking to expand my scotch horizons, and the rum finished Glenfiddich 21 seems rather intriguing. At the local liquor store, I see a bottle of Glenfiddich 21 with a purple label, as well as Glenfiddich 21 Gran Reserva with a reddish label.

Is there any difference between the two?

Anything I could find on a Google search would say there isn't as both the 21 yr olds are finished in rum casks but that may NOT be the definitive answer.
Perhaps Jojo will chime in on this one.

I have reached out to my Glenfiddich contact on this one and should hear something back very soon!

This is what we found out.....

The Glenfiddich 21 “Gran Reserva” was indeed the way it was labeled when it debuted about four years ago in the United States. During a global package refresh last year, the word descriptions were removed from several of the Glenfiddich variants, including this one. It is now known simply as Glenfiddich 21. It is the same smooth, flavorful liquid with toffee, caramel and leather aromas and tastes as originally launched. So, that means you are certainly correct with the general description of the colors of the old and new labels. And by the way, we're told Glenfiddich 21 paired with crème brulee or rich chocolate at the end of a nice meal is heavenly. With a fine cigar is rather wonderful, too. And I for one would certainly have to agree with this suggestion!

Default Glenfiddich 21

JOJO! i have been all over the internet trying to figure that question out and you have come up with a great answer. see, i bought the Havana Reserve many years back when i was in Scotland on the scotch tour. i have been trying to find it ever since. Only recently have i found some literature on it and found that it became the Gran Reserva and then the 21. so i bought the 21 and did my own taste test and found that they were very much alike. the only problem i have is that you can still find the Gran Reserva on the internet and buy it under that name. Is it truly the Purple lable 21 year old GlenFiddich?

Yes, it most certainly is! And, as you can see by its former name - Havana Reserve - why the name had to be changed for sale in the USA.
