If I am correct, Special Old Highland is equivalent to today's Johnnie Walker Red Label.
A standard size, 750ml bottle is worth $19 to $26 depending on where you go. There is no age statement on the bottle, but it generally uses scotchs that are from 7 to 10 years. As a scotch with an age statement has to reflect the youngest whisky in the blend, it would have to be stated to be 7 years old. Scotch doesnt age while its in the bottle. It only ages as long as its in the barrel its put in. So even if it leaves the barrel at 12 years old, and spends 50 years in the glass bottle, it would still only be a 12 year old whisky. That being said, its still only a 7 year scotch, even if its from a time when it still said Special Old Highland on the bottle rather than Red Label. There would be more worth in the glass bottle itself than the whisky it contains. I wouldnt bother insuring it. However if you want to, insure the bottle, not the contents. The bottle may be a collectors item. |
