year black & white

Hi, this is the first time for me on this forum. 20 years a go i became the owner of a old bottle black and white whisky. The label with the 2 dogs is missing. The bottle is never opened. I would like to now how old this bottle is.
On the label glentauchers glenlivet distillery mulben speyside n b.
I am from Holland. In my country nobody can tel my how old the bottle is and is it stil good to drink.
the bottle is sealed an i like to know how old it is !

Hi Albert;

If the bottle has not been opened and no air has penetrated, then the content of whisky will still be in good condition. But DO NOT open it!!

In my opinion, your item could be worth a lot of money to a collector.

I have no idea what the initials F.V. on the bottom of the bottle relate to; it could be simply the initials of the bottle manufacturer. If this is the case, I cannot remember a bottle manufacturer with these initials and being a Scot who has always had an interest in Scotch Whisky and a long-term involvement in the industry, my immediate thoughts are that the bottle is very old indeed.

James Buchanan & Co Ltd., owned Glentauchers Distillery based in Mulben, Banffshire (in the Highland Region of Scotland), so that explains the origin.

Again, in my opinion, your bottle must date back to the early 1900 period and I would guess 1930-1950 (or earlier) and, if this is the case, you possess a very, very Rare item.

The Black & White 'see-through' green bottle was introduced probably around
1960 and, personally, I have never seen one similar to yours.

Albert; wrap it up in cotton wool and have it valued by a good Wines & Spiirt Auctioneer!! If I am correct, you could be worth a small fortune; if I'm wrong, you can always drink it!!

Would be interested in knowing the outcome.

Hi Albert -

Your bottle of Black & White has been dated from c.1920s- c.1940s. The reason the date could not be more specific is because the bottle is missing its back and neck labels and also because the bottle design changed so little through the mid-twentieth century.

As for the inititals F.V. - there is no relation to this product / brand itself. Probably related to the glass manufacturer.

If you want your bottle valued, try bonhams.com or mctears.com - and please let us know what you find out.

Hello there. Im pretty sure your bottle is from 1905-1910 i wouldnt open it its worth some money.1920s had a different design good luck

I agree with the above. I think it was sometime around 1915 when all of the mergers started happening. After that there were 11 different distillers for Black & White. I found a similar old bottle of Black & White about a year ago from. From what I researched, I think mine was made between 1915, and 1925. I'm not for sure on this, but I think I'm pretty close. I would really like to drink it, but I think it might be a little too valuable for that to happen. Anyone ever seen a bottle like this one? Oh, and by the way.....It's up for sale right now.
