Well I'm happy with my $60 12 YO Highland Park for now .

Let the wealthy play the bragging game , I'm betting none of those is anything spectacular enough to justify the price , it's only the high price that makes them seem spectacular .

In fact, there are 50 bottles between £50,000 and £3,000!

Simply for the rich for bragging rights. I bet they aren't that good anyway.

I'd like to try some of them just to see but I'm guessing nothing would be worth that as far as the "wow" factor as far as a good Scotch goes , in fact I'll bet some would be a bit of a dissapointment compared to ones you can purchase at affordable prices .

I dont want to sound petty by saying "oh man, they probably are not good anyways" (and please note, I am not trying to impugn anyone here that has said something to that same effect).

But one thing I have found consistently true for myself is that I get SO much more out of extremely young whisky. This is, purportedly, true of the master distillers too. Why? Well...

The older a scotch gets the more and more mellow it gets. Proof? Take an Islay whisky and age it for 30 years. That peat? By and large disappeared. It all mellows out.

This is not to say that old whiskie are bad. Far from it. But if you want a more impressive display of a distiller's skill, try their very young offerings. There is a much greater chance to pick up the true, bold flavors and see just how well the particular expression actually tastes.

So would I love to have one of these hyper-expensive bottles? Uh...yes. Am I willing to ever pay more than $1000/bottle? Likely...never.
