Scotch for a Bourbon lover

Hi-
I am new the Scotch world, and I would like to get my father a bottle of single malt for his birthday. Somewhere in the 100 dollar range...I know he likes smoother rather than peaty- his favorite is a bourbon called Bulleit. Any ideas would be appreciated.

These are all under a $100 (and none are have a strong peaty taste) Highland Park 12 year and Aberfeldy 12 year, Cragganmore 12 year, Glengoyne 10 year and Auchentoshan 10 year. Oh yes, I just had BenRiach 15 years Pedro Ximinez Sherry Finish a few days ago and it was wonderful.

Keep in mind this list in not all inclusive (there are so many great scotches w/ little peat and under a $100) - but hopefully this will give you ideas of where to start -and- they're a few of the ones I have really enjoyed! BTW, yes, I can see how Bulleit Bourbon is a favorite, it's definitely one of mine!

If he is new to single malt scotch, and doesn't like peat, then I'd recommend something aged in sherry casks, like Macallan 18. It's $140 dollars, but I don't know anyone who doesn't like it. I also don't know anyone who thinks $140 for and 18 year isn't a bit pricey. But it's just damn good.

My other recommendation would be to get him a really good bourbon!! The George T. Stagg in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is fantastic, but at 72% alcohol might not be for everyone.

If you want to venture into the slightly peated (to me), Talisker 18 is very tasty and a good deal at around $70.

Two 'opposing' options immediately spring to mind...
The first is Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel (it ranges from just over 47%ABV to 50.4%ABV depending on the particular issue). Aged exclusively in ex-Bourbon wood, this beautiful, focused expression of the distillery style is laced with intense honeyed fruit and vanilla.
The second is Aberlour a'bunadh, drawn from 1st and 2nd-fill Oloroso wood and bottled at cask strength (just under 60%ABV). Those Jerez casks imbue the whisky with an astounding richness that simply glides over the palate - easily the equal of a fine Bourbon or Spanish Brandy.
