I'm pretty new to the scotch world, but my current favorite is the Bowmore 12yo. I like how it's smooth and smokey. That being said I'd like to try something new that's similar to it or maybe a tad smokier. Any suggestions ? thanks

Lagavulin 16.
Ardbeg Uigeadial. Caol Ila. The above probably have more smoke, but are still a bit sweet. Ardbeg 10- smoke overload, not very sweet Laphroaig quarter cask or 10 or 18, more complex peaty smoke, iodine, etc. Powerful flavor. Talisker is good too, similar to Bowmore, peaty smoke yet malty sweet.

I agree with most of the above, but also would like to recommend Caol Ila 12 year old. Beautifully smooth and drinkable but with a nice smoke level. Also Lagavulin Distillers edition which has a little more sweetness than the Lagavulin 16 year old, and also the Talisker Distillers edition, which is one of my all time favourites!
I enjoy Ardbeg's, but find them all very savoury with little sweetness, and maybe a bit much for a Bowmore lover. Last edited by michael; 12-06-2010 at 11:59 PM. |
