Hi all, is there a site that describes all the different grains used to make canadian whisky and giving an example of a common bottle for each grain?

Canadian whisky's are a blend of different grains. Corn Rye and Barley and i agree with the page I've attached that the water source used will affect or inpart a certain distinctivness to the type of whisky produced.
But to your question please follow this link as this should give you a good idea of the "tuffs that dreams are made of." Enjoy!!! http://www.city.waterloo.on.ca/seagr...ry/making.html Last edited by Eric1965; 11-20-2010 at 10:27 PM. Reason: spelling |

Century Reserve uses only corn. Glen Breton uses only malted barley. There are no barley-only blends. Potter's and Highwood use only wheat. Davin |

They are both blends that include several different grains. By and large most Canadian whiskies are made from corn and rye with some other grains, sometimes included.

Hi,
To my knowledge there is no such site. On my own Canadian whisky website I do occasionally mention mash bills, but often these are kept confidential, and sometimes they change from batch to batch. I'm a bit squeamish about using someone else's website to promote my own, but I think if you click on my name it will take you to the site. Davin |

It is most unusual to see you make a mistake. Potters uses Corn and Rye Highwood uses Wheat and Rye (These two I am very positive about having just spoken to the operations manager a few weeks ago prior to my reviews.) Alberta Springs has been 100% rye in the past, but they may have recently began adding corn.

Hi Chip,
Yes, you are 100% correct. Potters uses corn and rye. Highwood uses wheat and rye. I don't think there is a Canadian whisky that is 100% wheat whisky. Century Reserve is 100% corn. Sorry - My mistake. Thanks for catching it Davin Quote:

Crown Royal is indeed a corn mash - and a very good one !
Alberta Premium is a rare 100% rye whiskey - one of my faves ! |
