OK, this what we found out from our Macallan contact:

"This is a limited addition bottling which was created from barley grown exclusively on site at Macallan. I was just at a whisky auction last week in New York and Macallan performed very strongly – I am sure that there are not a huge number of these bottles in the USA as they are only sold at the distillery so it may appreciate nicely over the years."

Thanks, but I am still tempted to try it or give it as a gift.

Hi,

I am familiar with this expression. I purchased one of these from the distillery visitor center in May of 2008 as they in the beginning are to be indigenous to the visitor center only. These are to be released each season and ultimately be the replacement of the the long-standing Italian release 7-Year-Old. It is a nice pleasant dram and like the 7-Year-Old for the Italian market, has some complexity. Worth buying and trying and collecting.
