House of Lords Blended Scotch Whisky

While cleaning my parents home after they passed away, I found an unopened bottle of "House of Lords Blended Scotch Whisky" 4/5 quart, 86 proof. On the right hand side of the bottle it is written...William Whiteley Pitlochry Scotland. On the bottom of the bottle it is written...Whiteley Liquor Bottle Scotland 5834 and below that # is the # 5. On the label it states that when it was purchased it was 8 yrs old. The seal on the top of the bottle states "US International Revenue Tax paid 510573799". I remember this bottle from when I was a teenager at home, and I am now in my 60s.

Could you tell me if this is worth anything or even if the contents are drinkable. Thank you.

As long as your bottle has been stored properly - out of sunlight, in a cupboard or liquor cabinet, in cool temperatures and has avoided extremes of temperatures - it should be just fine. Also, it should have been stored in an upright position as to avoid contact with the cork.

Regarding the value of the whisky, something you need to keep in mind is that once it has been bottled, the whisky stops maturing. Therefore, even though it was bottled at 8 years, many years later, you still have an 8 year old whisky.

I'm not too sure how lucky you will be getting in touch with someone, so as a back-up, you can always try to contact the Edradour Distillery and perhaps they can direct you to someone who can steer you in the right direction. Can anyone please tell me about a bottle of whiskey I was given it is from the house of lords and has the kings coat of arms on it. It also has written around the sides distilled in the reign of King George The Fourth. The distillery is glen Whitley & Co if anyone can help or needs more information please let me know!

this whisky comes from the Edradour distillery in pitlochry/scotland.
I have been there last week and I bought a new bottle of the "house of lords".
this blend has an interesting history, involving the mafia and even the house of lords itself.

Do tell more of this History....

The Edradour Distillery is a beautifull unspoiled establishment perched on the hillside overlooking Pitlochrie near to the Bells Distillery. It has one of the best tours I have ever experienced. The House of Lords whisky is ok but the Edradour single malts are the ones to try, not particularly smooth but very enjoyable nontherless. Well worth a visit if your in the area.

Soon it will be my father 50's birthday and I'm looking for a bottle of house of lord whisky. We live in Italy and here I can't find it.
Can somebody tell me a website where I can buy this kind of whisky.

how much would you be willing to sells that bottle for? my grandfather sold the William Whiteley Company. I know all the history.

I have been given a red cardboard box, bottle there in, William whitlochry scotland 70cl, 40% vol, house of lords single highland malt scotch whisky aged 10 years, says Chivers brothers select only the choicest highland Malt scotch Whiskey for the upper house of the british parliament, the house of lords. been stored upright in cool understairs cubboard. haven't got clue as I don't drink it.
seems a shame. can you suggest best place to offer for sale and a'fair' price to ask?

Your bottle should read William Whiteley. I find it odd that the title to the thread is "Blended" but yet you state in your thread that it is a single malt. The House of Lords blended whisky no longer exists as far as I can tell from my research. It was owned at one time by Pernod Ricard who at the time owned Edradour distillery at which time Edradour was the primary single malt in Whiteley's blends, one being House of Lords. It may be that Edradour is what is being referred to by your statement "single highland malt"

I worked in the whiskey bond that bottled the whiskey also we used to do kings ransom whiskey I had many fond memories of working in there and many laughs and tears was there for a number of yrs and left to get married and have my daughter who is now 36 yrs old then the place closed down afterwards, it was a good place to work in and I miss all my workmates young and old now.

I ran across this thread by accident. It is an old one but I have to say that I could not believe my eyes when I read all of your comments. This is the reason why.

i live in California and as such we have a chain of stores here known as Trader Joe's. Nowadays TJ's can be found in many other states throughout the USA, but for us TJ's has been around for some time. I bring this up for this reason; the House of Lords blended scotch whiskey Chivas bottling, was available at TJ's in the 80's for the paltry some of $3.99 (I used to by it by the case for under $50.00). It was a great high quality Scotch that was actually superior to Chivas. I once did a blind tasting with some of my Scotch drinking friends and they thought that the Chivas was the lessor of the two. For those affectionados that refused to drink anything else, I used to pour it into a Chivas bottle and serve it with no one ever being the wiser.

So, as for what a bottle of that wonder would be worth today? WTFK, but I wish it was still made. Good times that!
