I have ran into what I believe is a first for an aged whisky. White Owl Whisky from Highwood Distillers is a well aged whisky, which has been charcoal filtered to be clear.
This is very similar to the new trend in premium clear rums, but like i said I have never seen it in a whisky before. I ran into the whisky during a private distillery tour that i had been invited to at Highwood's facilities. The real shock is how good it actually is. A lot of flavour and character survived the filtering, (it is somewhat more mellow), and i have found that the whisky mixes well in cocktails and is nice to sip straight. I wonder if anyone else has come across aged clear whiskies, or whether this is a first. (I have reviewed the whisky on my blog site if you want tasting notes)
