Default Old Scotch

I recently received several old, unopened bottles. Two are Dewar's White label, one J&B Rare, and one Southern comfort. All bottles are unopened with Tax Id seals. I dont believe Southern Comfort is as old as the scotch however it is almost clear? The scotch is believed to be 40 to 50+ years old. Is there anyway to find an actual age and value?

We can help you date your J&B Rare and Dewar's scotch - can you post pix? Especially of the closure and label - needs to be clear & close up! Not sure on the Southern Comfort, but try and post pix of that one as well!

Default Dating Dewar's whisky bottle....

Your Dewar's bottle has a modern screw cap - which replaced spring caps during the late 1950s and early 1960s. That's a start. Next is the coat of arms - your bottle reads "By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen" - this was used during two periods - the first from 1893 - 1901 and the second starting in 1956. Since a modern screw cap is being used, we know it's not from the earlier period. So, to try and be more specific, look at the reverse side of the label. A reference on the reverse side of the label such as ‘43-66’ means that the whisky was bottled in 1943. Take a look and let me know if you can see / read anything.

BiGG -

You're welcome! Now you can be our "Dating Dewar's Bottles Expert" !

As for your J&B Rare, this is what we found out: The labelling on this bottle of J&B was introduced in 1974, and was used until about 1987. However, I think the back label is on the earlier side of the date range, so very likely 1970s as suggested.

So, you're right about it being from the '70s!

We did have our Dewar's contact take a look at your bottle and we were told it looks like your bottle is from 1960s / 1970s.

I have a similiar bottle of Dewar's, but cant find the date code on the back-side of the label. My bottle lists the volume as 750ML. BiGG's bottles list it as '1 Quart' on one bottle and '4/5 quart' on the other. Any help appreciated.

Hi! I just found an old, unopened bottle of J&B Rare Scotch, and I was wondering if anyone could help me date it?

I've taken photos like the ones I've seen previously posted here to try to make the quest easier, but I don't know how to upload them here. When I try, I'm told to enter a URL. These pics are not on any website, but saved on my computer (and camera).

Help!!
