Can anyone please tell me more about this obscure/ duty-free bottling of Johnnie Walker called "Melt"? A gentleman from India told me of this, and said that it was smoother than the Blue Label. He figured the age of the whisky is near that of the Gold Label. But I cannot find any reference to it on the internet. Living in the US, we have the Pure Malt/ Green Label; but he insisted that it was not same whisky. What is this stuff?

As I posted earlier, Johnnie Walker supposedly has a bottling called "Melt"; available only at duty-free and overseas. But no one seems to know of it, and Johnnie Walker will not list anything about it. Why all the silence?

Sirius - we have checked the globe - well, OK, so not really the globe, but we did check with Scotland and India. Our contact at Diageo (owner of Johnnie Walker) has not heard of this "Melt" and neither has their contact in India! So, if you or anyone else out there can get a picture of this "Melt" product, PLEASE post it here or send to me - Joanne (at) CCIN.com - You MUST put "Whisky.com" in the subject line, otherwise, it may be overlooked, and I certainly would not want to miss this email as so many are now are all wondering what it is!

I can check over here in Germany and see if I can dig up any info. It is highly possible that it was named something different and is either being pronounced incorrectly, or was recalled incorrectly, as someone might do if consuming this "melt" in quantity and trying to recall the name later.

It has been over three months, and still there is no response as to the reality-or not- of Johnnie Walker "Melt". If the customer service person acknowledges its existance, then it should not be to difficult to discern which bottling the "Melt" might be. For example: Johnnie Walker "Quest"; "1821"; "Premier"; "Oldest"; etc....

I'll be traveling throughout Central America over the next few months. I'll be asked every duty free shop at every hotel and airport from Guatemala to Panama.
By the way, I joined this website because of this discussion.

Thanks medic981 and welcome to the Forum! I was recently in China and checked the duty free over there, but nothing. Thanks for keeping an eye out for us! I also just made another inquiry to Diageo customer care regarding this 'mystery JW'. BTW - sounds like you'll be on an adventure - be safe!

It has been since January, and, still, no response from Diego....
There was acknowledgement, from their customer service, as to the existence of the "Melt" bottling: From: johnniewalker@consumer-care.net Friday, November 28, 2008 8:34PM Re: Your Comment/Question Case# 376441 Jason C. - Johnnie Walker Consumer Representative Dear Mr. Wayne Andrews, "....Johnnie Walker "Melt" would have to be specially ordered from a specialty liquor outlet or a duty free shop closest to you. Thank you Jojo. In one sense, I feel foolish. In another sense, I do not regret having had my hopes up for rediscovering a potential arcane Johnny Walker bottling. Oh well.... the Green Label/Pure Malt was called "Malt" when it was only available overseas, and at duty-free shops. Please forgive me for all this craziness. But I think that you can appreciate my intrest in a bottling that we never see here in the U.S.

Dear Madam/Sir,
I am writing to tell you that I purchased a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label for Thanksgiving........we opened it and it is very harsh and bitter tasting. We are both 79 years old and we think we know what is good or not so good. This bottle was definitely not very good. We have purchased many kinds of Scotch over the years, and as I my husband stated.....this was really bad and he would not drink it. You may or may not care.........but thought I would let you know what we thought about your Red Label brand. Thanks, Janet Last edited by michael; 11-27-2012 at 07:21 PM. |

Well Janet, the red label isn't really very good. Try the black, or perhaps the green before it is gone for good. They are much better, and made with older whisky.
I think of the red as a mixer whisky. Diageo probably does as well.
