Default Help with mystery Scotch blend?

I recently purchased this bottle of blended Scotch from a whisky auction, and I am wondering if anyone has any information on this particular brand and blending firm. The shoulder label reads "Rich. Wilson & Co. Glasgow", and the main label says "Golden Cross World Renowned Scotch Whisky, Mild, Mellow, Matured, Rich. Wilson & Co. Glasgow" as well as "this rare old blend is distinguished by having a bouquet as in fine old matured wines" (see photos). There are two apparent marking on the glass: a "1" on the front of the bottle, and what appears to be a downward-pointing arrow on the reverse. The bottle it is sealed with a driven cork and lead capsule bearing the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. In addition, an italian metal "fasci" tax seal is affixed to the capsule which dates the bottle to between 1933 and 1944. Any additional information about this bottle would be greatly appreciated!

Default Golden Cross

mchomin,

Have you tried looking on the bottom for the bottle manufacturer's marks?

I'll admit I have not seen but 2 of these over the past few years, and can find no references to the manufacturer.

Aside from this one you have, I have seen another in Italy, but the seller
knows little about his bottle also.

Curious to kow what you find out!

Cheers,
Walter C Hurst

Hi Walter,

I just checked and alas there are no markings on the bottom of the bottle. This one's a head-scratcher...

Cheers,

Mike
