what of the above should be my next purchase?
I am pretty new to whiskey, my first single malt was the Glenlivet 15. Now I have these options: Glenlivet 15 Bowmore 15 Talisker 10 Macallan 10 and maybe Highland park 10 I am not sure about the last one so take it as an option only. If so, what should I get then? should I prefer "younger" macallan/talisker to 15 Glenlivet / Bowmore? And what is preferable anyway, the Bowmore or the Glenlivet? Advice will be appreciated. Thanks |

Disclaimer: Im a beginner as well and all tastes are different.
That really depends on you. Which you will prefer is imposssible to know. However I can compare them to Glenlivet. Macallan 12 for more Sherry Flavor (Sweeter). I believe a traditional 10 yo OB does exist but it may be limited to GB as I have never seen it in the USA. The "Fine Oak Series" in my opinion just isnt the traditional Macallan. I really dont care for the FO and I suspect Im not alone. Highland Park 12 for a little more of everything. It is known as the "Great All-Rounder" for a reason. It is very well balanced. I find the flavors tend to change order of predominance with the weather and my mood. Highly recommended. (Disclaimer: May be influnced by the HP12 currently in hand). Taliskar 10 - Peppery and Smoky. (Disclaimer: No personal experience.) Bowmore 15 - Bring on the Peat. Kind of a poor mans Lagavulin (local pricing). It is known to have an unusual wide range of "Cask Variation" so you will get some flavor drift from batch to batch. (Disclaimer: No personal experience.) |
