i was wondering if you could date a bottle of scotch for me. my uncle passed away a couple of years ago and we were clearing out my grandparents house this weekend and found a graduation present my great aunt had given him almost 20 years ago (if it was all his graduation present). the box contained a variety of bottles of alcohol both opened and unopened. in it there was a bottle of white horse cellar scotch. it is a green bottle with a gold top and labeled "eu no 7845700" and has markings on the bottom "SAJ16 S8 0GB". the "1" could be a capital i and the "g" could be a c. i have included multiple pictures from almost every single angle including pictures of the device holding down the cork and the design on the bottom of the bottle and the bump on the bottom side of the bottle.

Mike,
Your bottle is most likely very late 1950 or very early 1960, before White Horse went to using clear glass in thier bottles. The device you describe for holding down the cork is called a "Spring Cap" (Invented in 1929, Patented 1945 under the name Kork-n-Seal)...this device was discontinued from use on White Horse bottles in the very late 1960's. I've collected these Spring Cap bottles here in the US for a long time (many White Horse among then), and have 2-3 just like it. Your bottle has a nice fill-level on it, and would fetch $200+ in my collection. Cheers, Walter C Hurst wchurst@hotmail.com |

Thanks Mike! Yep, this bottle of White Horse is dated from 1958-1961.
