Default Auchentoshan 21 - I TOFTT

Big disappointment. I should've just picked up another bottle of Glenlivet 21. The nose is astringent and doesn't make want to dive in. So I,m turned off from the start. The palate is just kind of blech!!!! I don't know how to really describe it except it tastes cheap. Crown Royal has a better palate and I have nothing but contempt for Canadian whiskEy. I think it's too oaky in the palate. This is not well balanced. Yuck. Mercifully, the finish is not strong or long - but make no mistake, you don't want this lingering on your tongue. At least it's consistent: everything bad in the nose and palate is present in the finish.

if you're in So Cal, I'll give you what's left.

The problem with the Glenlivet?? could be one of two reasons, firstly it could be "corky", smell the cork and see if that's the problem. If it is then I would suggest you contact the store you bought it from and complain. They should offer to either replace or to contact the shippers to get a replacement.
The second problem if it's quite sharp and bitter is that it's been in contact with either heat or sunlight for too long and thats a problem for the shop where you bought it.
Hope this helps

ps it could also be their belnder/malt master having a bad day

Wow, sounds like you got a bad bottle. While I prefer Auchentoshan 18, my experience with the 21 is entirely different. Sorry to hear it, and I agree with blenderm -- I would definitely lodge a complaint with the store that sold it.
