Recommendations?

I am new to the scotch world. I've tried Macallan 12yr, Glenmorangie 10yr, Oban 14yr. Of the three the Glenmorangie is my favorite. I just bought a bottle of Craggenmore 12yr just from the reviews that accompanied it at Bevmo. Is it similar to the Glenmorangie 12yr? I'm thinking of taking it back and getting the Glenmorangie La Sonta. Anyone try this Glenmorangie line?

Also, a second question. My father is a Johnny Walker drinker. I gave him a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue for Christmas last year, which he has not opened yet. He is normally drinks the "Black" label. How does the "Blue" differ from the "Black"? Also, what single malt scotch can I recommend to make him forget about Johnny?

I dont really have any perfect recommendations for you but it seems like you are on the right path. You can pretty much try any Glenmorangie, there whole line is really nice. I also like Tormore 12yo.

As regards to your father, the blue is very different from the black it is very smooth and goes down a lot easier than the black. What you need to realize is that blue and black are both blended whiskies. If you want to try and put your father in the direction of single malts you could recommend to him Johnnie Walker Green, it is not a single malt it is a blended malt but it is in the right direct to get him to a single malt that isnt johnnie walker since they dont make one. I really enjoy Cragganmore 12 year - here are my comments: Cragganmore 12year is a delight. It's very smooth, somewhere in between light to medium body. Sweet wood smoke. I liked it so much, I bought it the day after I tried it at a Scotch tasting! I also really enjoy the whole Glenmorangie line especially D'or, Quinta Ruban and the LaSanta. If Glenmorangie is what you like, then you can't go wrong with any of these.

As for Johnnie Walker Black - Talisker is one of the contributing whiskies (which is very earthy, smoke, peppery) and I can certainly taste it with each sip. As for the Blue Label - the first time I tasted it, sure was a nice treat. It's creamy, hint of almonds. Very smooth, very enjoyable.

I just got my first bottle of Cragganmore and haven't opened it yet...yet...but if you like Macallan you might want to try their Fine Oak bottles. Very nice, and the 10yr is quite reasonably priced!
