Hello,
From what i heard, the taste and colour of whisky will change depending how many years it is matured in the cask... is there any change after it is being bottled? and the years normally used to describe the whisky is the amount of years matured in the cask right? or does it includes bottled years? Regards |

RL - The taste really should not change - not that much anyway. But if you're waiting years and years and years to drink it and depending on how you have stored it, can make a big difference. My personal preference is to drink my Scotch within a couple of years, but I do have some now for 6 - 7 years and I believe the taste to be the same.
Once the spirit is bottled, it stops maturing. The color is created during maturation and comes from the cask (wood) itself.

it could change depending on how much whisky is still in the bottle
and how long. but i have about 350 bottles open - some of them for many years and i hardly ever find it changes a lot and even if it does most of the time just leave it in the glass for half an hour or so. |

I've been looking around the internet to what gives color to the whisky and I've read a few different answers. Some sources say it's from the grain, some say from color treatment before bottling, and, like the answer above, some sources say from the oak barrels. I'm new to whisky (both drinking and to the forum) and I'm curious to know does a longer maturation period in a barrel end up turning the final product darker?

Ohh, definitely wait a year and then drink during a Winter evening preferably next to a fireplace!
