Does Cu Dhub ring a bell to you? Black caramel is actually added to this Speyside malt to give it an unusual dark colour.
Where did you purchase your case of dark brown (black) whisky? |

I just found this:
CU DHUB Black Whisky - A black whisky, produced to replace the infamous but much loved Loch Dhu. So, after seeing that - I'm wondering if you can even find Loch Dhu anymore??? --P |

I would hold on to that bottle, the distillery closed 10(?) years ago and it will be a rarity just like Ladyburn. (I am babying a bottle of each!)

loch dhu distillery is not closed because there never was a loch dhu distillery. it was produced by Mannochmore distillery which has discontinued the production of loch dhu but still makes the excellent mannochmore

I am wanting to buy a single malt 25 year old bottle for my groomsmen and I wanted to keep the bottle under 250. What would be a few of my best choices, and where would I go to purchase.

This is near impossible to find anymore, and if you do its SUPER pricey, it is by far the best i've every had, i used to work in a whiskey specialist bar and i can account for the disappearance of at least one bottle of it!! but its the only black one i've ever seen or tasted!

Loch Dhu can still be purchased at a few specialist suppliers in the UK, most of the stock is held and comes from www.loch-dhu.com
All the best Rachel |

I found 53 bottles that have been auctioned since 2005. 2005 ( 1 bottle ): 145 EURO / US$183 2006 ( 6 bottles ): 101 - 155 EURO / US$127 - 195 2007 ( 9 bottles ): 105 - 151 EURO / US$132 - 190 2008 ( 16 bottles ): 82 - 255 EURO / US$103 - 321 2009 ( 17 bottles ): 70 - 145 EURO / US$88 - 183 2010 ( 4 bottles ): 77 - 96 EURO / US$97 - 121 AVERAGE AUCTION PRICE = 107 EURO / US$135 There was only 1 out of 53 bottles that broke the 200 EURO price which sold for 255 EURO. Considering one broke this price and assuming this is a "flyer" so to speak, then the average price of Loch Dhu at auction over a 5 year period was 104 EURO / US$131 As these are the final prices brought at auction, and as I have written many times before, all associated costs such as shipping to the auction house and selling fees will come out of this price. So three things to consider for ANY collectible, but for this particular collectible: 1) Do I collect to have it and display ( which has an aesthetic and intrinsic value)? 2) Do I sell to gain just a few dollars in the end? 3) Do I open the bottle and experience what few people will never have the opportunity to do? Well I wouldn't put it so eloquently as noted above. But, it's really, really bad.
Save your money! Cheers!

I agree it is bad whisky but it is highly collectible because of its uniqueness.
