We have the same issue in Alabama where I live. I dont know your law but here we can only have internet orders delivered to the ABC Store and pay state taxes on pickup.

Also many choices are wholesale only from the ABC Store which means you have to buy them form private stores who by law are required to buy from ABC.
That means Dalwhinnie 12yo for instance cost twice what Highland Park does.

Cant really help you for alternatives other than to say look for "suprises" in the sytem.

Their are a few pleasant suprises in our system. Three biggest sellers compared to my three choices in the same price range.

Best Sellers:
McClelland Highland Scotch NAS 40% $24.95
Glenlivet 12yo 40% $40.99
Glenfiddich 12yo 40% $42.99

My Choices:
Speyburn 10yo 43% $24.99
Warm summer evenings and beginners. Much superior to McClelland in my opinion.

Highland Park 12yo 43% $39.99
My primary choice. Best buy in the system in my opinion.

Laphroaig 10yo 43% $42.99
Chilly winter evenings: A little much for me day to day.

Disclaimer: I am a beginner and dont claim to be able to taste the "Pineapple with whipped cream and vanilla with a mocha expresso chaser".
To me it taste like Whisky... I just know what I like and I dont.
