This is really a tough one because what you are describing doesn't sound familiar to me for any type of normal sediment.
Do you have the Mortlach 22 year - 1972?
We consulted with an expert who suggested you may want to filter the "slivers" out with a paper filter from a coffee machine - just to be on the safe side.
