Ha! I was thinking Balevenie 21 year Portwood even before I read that's what you were thinking!
$120 to $180 is a pretty decent amount for a bottle of scotch. Off the top of my head.... Glenrothes Vintage 1985, Old Malt Cask Port Ellen 1982 - 25 year (not sure on price for this one, but it's up there) and Dalmore 15 year (below $100).
And, my condolences to your friend!
