My favorite Yamazaki is the cheapest one, the Yamazaki 12, and it's even available at Total Wines for less than it is in Japan. Bear in mind when I say it's my favorite, I haven't cared for many older bottlings, and gave my drinks of 18 and 1984 to my friend after a few sips. The NAS is horrible, even though the NAS Hakushu is pretty good, at the same price no less.
Yamazaki 12 is absolutely fantastic, both before, during and after. I'm having some now and it's one of my top favorites.
The Hakushu's I've had are in the picture and the two I really love are the little distillery release on the left and the now discontinued 10.
There is something about Hakushu that when I taste it, the only comparison I can think of is to say it tastes like Hakushu. It's some incredibly good stuff and I think that before much longer the whole whisky drinking world will know about it.
