Much better introduction to Balvenie would be the 12yr Signature or 15yr Single Cask.
Even though the DoubleWood and Signature are both 12yrs, don't be fooled; the Signature is a different world of complexity and balance. Although I'd still put the Sig and DW as entry level malts for Balvenie, there is a big gap between them.
.......once Balvenie hits 17yrs it starts to become masterful, it's the perfect age for it. Just a shame that so much of their amazing stuff is now discontinued.
I saw Highland Park 25, the only scotch to win 100 points at the ultimate spirits challenge. Even at $350+ that's hard to pass up. Anyone tried it?
