Interesting review on the CI 12 - thanks I had been curious. I bought a few bottles of Lag 16 as they were on **** (it is rather expensive in Australia).
Hoped that I would like it and wow....it is sublime. For me it embraced everything I hope a single malt whisky should - rich colour, complex aroma and a taste; feels like you are stepping back in time mixed with a great chuck of Scottish oceanside all in a glass. I feel that it has more balance than the Laphroaig 10 which kind of pops out a little bit in aroma & taste although very pleasant in itself. I have since tried a few others...Macallan Fine Oak 12 (Ok nothing to rave about), Laphroaig 10 (superb), Oban 14 (felt a little smooth) and Talisker 10. I really liked the Talisker although again it is a bit sharper at the front end.
Gee drinking scotch is an expensive pass time. Good job it's good for you
