Ardbeg Corryvreckan - The whirlpool of Islay
Having finished my first bottle of Corryvreckan just recently and just opened my replacement bottle, I thought it appropriate to have a Corryvreckan thread.
I'm not good with the superlatives, but my senses know what they like Corryvreckan is near the top for me.
My first Ardbeg, predictably, was 10, and far from being relegated to irrelevant status, still remains as a necessity beside its more illustrious sibling.
When I got my first bottle of Corryvreckan I doubted that anything would shake my core of Ardbeg 10 and Uigeadail, but the Uigeadail almost seemed unnecessary in direct comparison to the Airigh Nam Beist successor. Subsequent tastings of Uigeadail in non-comparison settings has changed my mind though, and it remains a favorite still.
I assume that most have had Ardbeg 10 and Uigeadail and the best I can do to describe Corryvreckan is as a pumped up version of Uigeadail.
Tonight I'll have a glass and think about it more, but I already know that some others of you out there are much better at putting to words what the Corryvreckan is for those not yet acquainted with the Ardbeg lineup.
Next, I believe I may be off to Speyside...
