I'm in Austin, Texas on business, and decided I needed some whisky to drink as I watched the Parade of Motorcycles ride by my hotel marking the kickoff for the 2013 Republic of Texas Rally. Just a happy coincidence, as I love motorcycles.
I stopped by Wiggy's on Lamar St and 11th, and was blown away by their selection. Not only did this little neighborhood shop have a lot of hard to find items, but they had something I haven't only never tasted, but something I have never even heard of: Laphroaig Triple Wood.
The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon and quarter casks, and finished in European oak. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 48% ABV.
I drank a good bit last night watching the parade of bikes, and can tell you it was a very good Laphroaig expression, but I will give it more time before doing a formal review.
I would really like to taste it back to back with Laphroaig 10, Quarter Cask, and Cask Strength, as they are all somewhat similar.
