Okay, this post made me go get my open bottle of Laphroaig 10. I swear, both Ardbeg and Laphroaig can keep me happy for the longest time just sampling the aroma. Damn this stuff is good and I swear, if all newcomers to Islay would just take their time with these stronger expressions, I think there would be far more immediate converts.
Know what you're saying about the Bowmore 12 and I'll probably not buy it again, but if someone has a bottle I'll gladly have a sip before I'll have the Caol Ila 12.
Have you tried the Bowmore Legend or 15? I like the 12, don't care for the 18, and am very curious about the middle of the range.

I had some 25 year Signatory Vintage Port Ellen that had the longest, smokiest finish of anything I've ever tried yet, and I got more enjoyment out of the 20 minute finish than I have out of many, many a drink.
I believe I'll buy a bottle if it's still available when I get back to the place where I found it.
